Big Bend National Park, Texas – Where To Stay, What To Do

I don’t know too many people that have been to Big Bend National Park because it’s so far away from everywhere and everything. But that’s also the beauty of it. We didn’t get to do as much as we would’ve liked because my husband had gotten a bad cold and didn’t feel well.

So the main thing we did was drive to Chisos Basin, which is in the center of the mountains. The drive there and back was in itself enough to make this trip worthwhile. From the visitor’s center in Chisos Basin there is also a short hike with some beautiful views. Throughout the park there was a variety of ecosystems, from desert to mountains.

We really enjoyed gazing at the stars at night. This is one of the darkest and largest dark-sky places in the world. If you’re into night sky photography, plan your stay to coincide with a new moon, and you will not be disappointed.

Other things we would’ve liked to have seen are:
-Balanced Rock
-Anywhere along the Rio Grande

But I’d have to say highlight of our stay was staying at Stardust Big Bend. It’s in Terlingua, just outside of the park. They have 10 A-frame cabins and one shipping container cabin. Each one has its own fire pit and sitting area. Our A-frame was super clean and comfortable, and had all the amenities we could want. Even a dishwasher! The bed was so cozy, and from it we had views for miles.

We will definitely be returning and staying at Stardust Big Bend again.
