Meteor Crater, Winslow, AZ – Is it Worth Seeing?

Yes, absolutely. Did you know that it’s the best-preserved meteorite impact site on Earth? Here are some facts and things you need to know to visit Meteor Crater, or Barringer Crater.

☄️This impact crater was created 50,000 years ago.
📏It measures .75 mi wide in diameter.
👉🏻There are 190 confirmed impact craters in the world. This is one of the most accessible, well-preserved craters.
📍40 miles from Flagstaff, AZ
6 miles off of Highway I-40 in Winslow, AZ.
🎟️It’s privately owned, and tickets are $18-27.
✨3 observation decks. One has telescopes to various interest points, including an old mine dug for failed attempts at finding iron ore.
🏨We stayed 50 miles away at an RV park in Holbrook, AZ, which we also used as our base for visiting Petrified Forest National Park. There were also 10 hotels in town.
⛺️There is also an RV Park right by Meteor Crater, and if you stay there you get a discount to the crater.
🅿️If you’re just stopping by with your RV, there is PLENTY of space to get any size RV in there and turn around to get back out. It’s a huge parking lot, which you can kind of tell in my reel.
🐶🐱Stopping by with your pet? They have a “Pet Ramada”, well really just a kennel with protection from the sun, water, fans, and someone to stay with them and make sure they are comfortable.

✨Bonus: The night sky here, although not officially designated as “dark sky” is very dark! So if you park in the parking lot overnight you have the benefit of seeing the stars and maybe the Milky Way at night.
