Argentina – 12 Day Itinerary to Buenos Aires, Iguazu, and Ushuaia
Have only 12 days to visit Argentina, and want to get the most out of it? Here is an itinerary to see 4 different areas of Argentina.
Since this trip includes Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, this itinerary is ideal for summer travel. That’s the southern hemisphere’s summer (Oct-Mar). You’ll have to pack for a range of weather, though. It’s a hot sub-tropical climate in the north, and cold down in Tierra del Fuego where the penguins live!
Fly from Buenos Aires to
Iguazu Falls, Missiones – Stay at Hotel Gran Melía – the only Hotel within the National Park
Day 1: 📷Walk from the hotel along and above the falls on the Argentine side. 📷 Take a boat ride into the spray of the falls. 📷Enjoy the infinity pool and poolside service.
Day 2: 📷Take a cab to the Brazilian side for full panorama view of the falls. 📷Have lunch at the Belmond Hotel.
Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia – Stay at Hotel Lennox – Boutique Hotel within walking distance to marina, shops, restaurants and bars.
Day 1: Spend most of the day getting to this southernmost town, which is also the launch port for Antarctica tours. 📷Have dinner at Kuar while overlooking the Beagle Channel.
Day 2: 📷Take a penguin viewing boat tour, and also see cormorants, sea lions and possibly whales. 📷Visit the Tierra del Fuego National Park.
Day 3: 📷Take a helicopter ride to see the glacial lakes and have a glass of champagne on a mountaintop. .
San Antonio de Areco, Provincia de Buenos Aires – about 1.5 hrs outside of BA. Stay at Estancia El Ombu – a working ranch and idyllic guest house. All-inclusive. (Alternatively Estancia La Bamba for Polo)
Day 1: 📷Relax by one of the 2 pools, enjoy the sight and sound of parrots in the trees. 📷Enjoy traditional meal outside under the stars.
Day 2: 📷Take a guided horseback ride around the estancia, see gauchos at work, grazing cattle, falcons, and maybe even a capybara. 📷Enjoy a typical criollo Asado, music, dancing, and a horse-whisperer show. ALL the beef in Argentina is grass-fed and oh so delicious. 📷 Play some billiards and snack on empanadas and Quilmes beer in the late afternoon.
Day 3: Relax some more and head to BA. .
Buenos Aires – Stay at Hotel Grand Brizo – has view of the Obelisco and Avenida 9 de Julio.
Day 1: 📷See Recoleta Cemetery and surrounding neighborhood 📷Go to dinner in Palermo Soho for nightlife.
Day 2: 📷Shop at San Telmo Market (Sundays). 📷Visit colorful La Boca, see some tango dancers.
Day 3: 📷View the Casa Rosada and other government buildings. 📷Tour Teatro Colón. 📷Visit Puerto Madero area. . If you have more days, extend your BA stay, since there is SO much to see
