Dubrovnik, Croatia – Things To Do, Hours Needed For Each

Whether you have just a few hours in Dubrovnik or a whole week, here are some things to do in or around town. I’ve grouped them into how much time is needed so you can pick and choose depending on your schedule.

1 Hour Or Less

  • Fill your water bottle at Onofrio’s large drinking fountain (5 mins) – Yes, the water is potable! The large one is next to Pile Gate. There is also a smaller one on the other side of town.
  • Visit the Rector’s Palace (1 hr) – Discover the history of Dubrovnik in the beautiful museum housed in a former palace.
  • Tour the Franciscan Monastery (1 hr) – Visit this historic monastery known for its beautiful cloister and ancient pharmacy.
  • Explore the Sponza Palace (30 mins) – Check out this architectural gem that now houses the city archives.
  • Visit the Dubrovnik Cathedral (30 mins) – Admire the beautiful baroque architecture and the relics housed inside.
  • Visit the War Photo Limited Gallery (1 hr) – View powerful war photography that documents the conflicts in the region.
  • Visit the Maritime Museum (1 hr) – Learn about Dubrovnik’s seafaring history through exhibits and artifacts.
  • Explore Fort Lovrijenac (1 hr) – Visit this impressive fortress that overlooks the city and offers panoramic views.

1.5 to 3 Hours

  • Walk the ancient City Walls (2 hrs) – If you only have time for ONE activity, do this! The ancient walls surrounding Old Town are part of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Relax at Banje Beach (2-3 hrs) – Enjoy sunbathing, swimming, or a drink at this popular beach near the Old Town.
  • Stroll through Stradun in Old Town (2-3 hrs) – This Main Street is lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings.
  • Have lunch or dinner on Projeko street (1.5-2 hrs) – This hidden pedestrian street is up the stairs and one block north of Stradun, the Main Street.
  • Take a Cable Car to Mount Srd (2-3 hrs) – Enjoy breathtaking views of Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands from the top.
  • Take a Game of Thrones Tour (2-3 hrs) – Explore filming locations and learn about the series’ impact on the city.
  • Enjoy a Dinner Cruise (3 hrs) – Savor a meal while cruising the Adriatic and enjoying the sunset.

Half Day

  • Explore Lokrum Island (half day) – Take a short boat ride to this beautiful island for hiking, swimming and visiting the botanical gardens.
  • Hiking in the Srd Mountain (4 hrs) – Hike the trails for stunning views and a chance to explore the natural surroundings
  • Explore the historic town of Ston (4 hrs) – Known for its ancient walls and salt pans, Ston is a great place for history enthusiasts.

Full Day

  • Day Trip to Cavtat (full day) – Explore this charming coastal town, know for its beautiful promenade and rock beaches.
  • Explore the Pelješac Peninsula (full day) – Visit vineyards, picturesque towns like Ston, and enjoy local seafood.
  • Go to Mljet National Park (full day) – This natural beauty has 2 saltwater lakes, and you can enjoy activities such as kayaking, riding ebikes, and swimming.
  • Charter a Boat to Explore Other Nearby Islands (full day) – There are many islands hugging the Croatian coast. This is a great way to spend a relaxing day and avoid crowds.
